Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals. Today, Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s largest and most effective farm animal rescue and protection organization.
Thousands of animals have been rescued and cared for at the three sanctuaries located in Watkins Glen, New York; Orland, California; and the Los Angeles, California.
The Farm Sanctuary website provides an overview of each of the three sanctuaries, provides education about the unhealthy and detrimental effects of factory farming on people and the environment, provides ways to get involved via volunteering and animal welfare legislation, and offers photos and videos. They also offer two guides to vegetarian living.
