Ingredients

1 large grapefruit (cut in half)
2 tbsp maple syrup (or date paste, link in Chef’s Notes)
 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
 2 pinches salt (optional)
 2 tbsp almond slivers

Directions

1

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2

After cutting the grapefruit in half, loosen the segments by slitting in between them with a paring knife. Then loosen around the edges, between the fruit and the pith, which will help with removing the fruit once cooked.

3

With a Chef’s knife, trim the bottom skin of the grapefruit so the bottom of the grapefruit sits flat on the baking sheet.

4

Place the grapefruit on the parchment-lined baking sheet.

5

In a small bowl, mix the maple syrup and ground cinnamon together.

6

Divide the maple syrup mixture between the two slices of grapefruit, drizzling it on top of the fruit.

7

Add a pinch of optional salt to each half.

8

Broil in the oven for 5–7 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

9

Remove from the oven, divide between plates and top with almond slivers.

Chef's Notes

Substitutions
Substitute slivered almonds with walnuts, pecans or pistachios.

Nut-Free
Substitute slivered almonds with hemp seeds or sunflower seeds.

Whole food sweetener
Use date paste in place of maple syrup. Note you may need to add 1–2 tablespoons of water to help loosen the date paste and allow the syrup to coat the grapefruit.

Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
