8 pitted dates
1 tsp vanilla extract (preferably alcohol-free)
salt (optional, to taste)
hot water
2 organic apples (sliced)

Soak the dates in hot water for 10 minutes.

Drain, but reserve the soaking water.

Add the dates, vanilla, salt, and ¼ cup soaking water to the food processor and pulse until smooth.

If the mixture is too thick, add more of the soaking water to achieve the desired consistency.

Transfer to a bowl and serve with apple slices.
